On Sunday a hardy contingent of bikers rode to Toormina’s Velodrome to practise their sprints.  The velodrome is a fantastic public utility and is an excellent training venue, consisting of the velodrome and an outer racing track (criterion).  We used both and timed our laps.  There was no doubt that youth assists in producing relatively fast times and Kirk fulfilled our need for a club sprinting champion.  However it was great to see that even the oldest in our group kept the times well in check and reminded us how beneficial cycling is in maintaining that youthful look and vigour.  The morning finished off with the obligatory coffee, this time at the Butterfly House Café.

For the record, here are the times (velodrome 330m/criterion 800m):

Michelle 34.8 / 1:45

Bettyanne 33.6 / 1:45

Mark  29 / 1:29

Dave  26.7 / 1:27

Phil  31 / 1:26

Kirk  23.6 / 1:15

Alan  – / 1:35

Herb  – / 1:46

Next Sunday our members will participate in the NAB Coffs Coast Cycle Challenge which involves touring from the Jetty to Sawtell, Bonville, Mylestom, & Bellingen.  With over 500 entrants already, it’s still not too late join in the challenge.  For those wishing to support or travel along the route, please be mindful of the cyclists along the roads, particularly around Mylestom and on Waterfall Way to Bellingen.  Legally, cyclists can ride 2 abreast however our roads are narrow with plenty of pot holes so caution needs to be taken by all.
