Maclean 2023

Monday 27th November – Friday 1st December 2023 (finish lunchtime). Recommended accommodation is a larger caravan/camping/cabins park nearby at Palmers Island, Fishing Haven Holiday Park. This is approx. 11km from Maclean (towards Yamba). Please quote “DUBBUG” when making a booking to obtain our group discount. All rides will start from this location (rides below will be adjusted soonish).

Other accommodation options includes Maclean Riverside Caravan Park, Maclean Showground (first in, best dressed, no showers), Maclean Hotel, motels x 2, Air BnB, etc.

If you will be delayed for any ride, please text/call Dave S (or Rayner if no response). Don’t rush, the proposed timetable is not strict. We will work something out!

The nearest bicycle repair shop is in Yamba.

Evening Meals – proposal is for 5pm “happy hour” at Caretakers cottage each night (BYO). Monday night dinner organised by Rayner & Bev (DUBBUG sponsored). Tuesday night courtesy bus to Maclean Bowling Club. Wednesday own transport to Yamba Shores Tavern or Yamba Golf Club. Thursday night BBQ at Caretakers cottage (BYO) or Sanctus Brewery (as an option).

Monday 27th November

2:00 pm – Welcome cycle tour of Maclean, finish with afternoon drinks & dinner at caravan park.

Tuesday 28th November

8:30 am – A favourite ride to Brooms Head Lookout & return. Morning snack break @ Townsend. Brooms Head early lunch (Brooms Head General Store or Snak Shak). Swimming possible.

Wednesday 29th November

8:30 am – Explore Woodford Island, lunch at Brushgrove hotel. Morning tea at Botero (Maclean) or Lawrence (optional).

Thursday 30th November

Choice of two scheduled rides – the gravel bike (Option B) is an exploration of a possible route to New Italy whilst avoiding the main highway. The sealed road to Woody Point (Option A) will need to take morning tea.

Option A – 8:30 am Sealed Road Bike ride to Woody Point. Bring own morning tea. Swimming possible.

Option B – 8:30 am Gravel Bike ride exploring route to New Italy (morning tea/ brunch) – meet near Iluka turnoff. Unsealed road (track) to New Italy, return via freeway.

Friday 1 December (finish by lunchtime)

8:30 am – We get to explore Chatswood Island and finish at Harwood Hotel for brunch before returning back to vehicles.
