DUBBUG Ride Report
4th November 2012
George Smith
It looked like rain. It didn’t. It looked too hilly. It wasn’t. It looked too far. Well, maybe it was for some of us.
Sunday’s ride was to Stuarts Point via Scotts Head Rd and back through Yarrahappini and the Highway. It was a nice 80 km journey through pleasant coastal scenery. The obligatory cyclists’ coffee stop was at Stuarts Point. It was generally accepted that we had earned it. Yes, there are a lot of hills but, it was easier going “anti-Clockwise” rather than the reverse where the hills are shorter but much steeper.
We had no punctures and no mechanical incidents. All in all a most enjoyable morning’s jaunt.
Some riders started, as scheduled, from Nambucca Information Centre. Others, perhaps wiser, riders started from Macksville Pool. Of course Phil Jones started from Raleigh but we try not to talk about him.
Well, what can I say? The ride was conducted at a steady pace – even George Smith was not too far behind at the “catch up” points. Traffic was light and the scenery great.
DUBBUG members are now getting excited about the upcoming trip away to the Victorian Rail Trails.
A strong contingent of riders and their partners will be based at Myrtleford for just short of a week. We will be joined by a posse of Coffs Harbour BUG members. Rides to Beechworth, Bright, and Wangaratta are scheduled plus a number of other short excursions.
Next Week’s ride is: Sunday 11th. Start 7:30 a.m. from the BP Urunga. The ride will be 50 kms “Bonville Blessing” – Bellingen Overpass, Old Highway, Lyons Rd, Sawtell then Back to Bonville Golf Club for coffee and back to Urunga..
Weekday rides as usual on Wednesday & Friday. Start Urunga BP at 8 a.m.
