DUBBUG Ride Report
2nd September 2012
George Smith
Father’s Day, “Toast Urunga”, and Macksville’s “Rusty Iron Rally” conspired to reduce starters for Sunday’s ride.
There were five starters from Urunga led by the intrepid Ian Scott who set a steady pace along the Old Highway and then a deviation around Lindsay’s Road and other “Steeper” roads to Garden Mania for a welcome coffee. Ian took us in the anticlockwise direction, to avoid going up one very steep hill, but even that concession was not enough for George and Herb, who were somewhat slower than others, and managed to shorten their ride by turning early and cutting out one of the steeper climbs.
Herb declined coffee and headed for home to participate as a volunteer at “Toast Urunga”. George was rejoined by Ian, Robert and Tim at the coffee table where they were then joined by another club stalwart, April, who was there treating her father.
It was now the turn of Robert and Ian to desert the “peloton” as they had to attend the Coffs BUG AGM. This left just George and Tim to make the return journey. Tim, thankfully, took pity on George and set a moderate pace into a headwind for the remainder of what was a very enjoyable ride back to Urunga.
Of course, having started at Nambucca, Tim cycled on alone to complete his 90 km effort for the day.
Next Week’s ride is: Sunday 9th. Start 8 a.m. from the Dorrigo Hotel, (or 7 a.m. for vehicular pick up from Urunga BP). The ride will be 36 kms around the Fernbrook Loop, followed by coffee back at Dorrigo. This is one of the most scenic of our rides and well worth the effort. Even George says that the hills are not too bad.
Weekday rides as usual on Wednesday & Friday. Start Urunga BP at 8 a.m.
