Ride Report – Urunga to Sawtell
18th November 2012
Ian Scott

Wake up at 4:30am, still raining cats and dogs, looking forward to a sleep in. Alarm goes of at 5:30am, still light drizzle, have breakfast, look outside. It’s clearing up but still lots of storm clouds around. Would love to go back to bed but I’m the ride leader!

Ride down to Urunga to see what other fools have left their nice warm dry beds to join the ride. Phil, Herb and George arrive, enough said.

We head up the old highway to Lyons Road, then along the cycle way. Right at Bruce King Drive, up Lady Belmore Drive, past Toormina High then through Centro car park. Along Minorie Drive then around the back of Boambee Gardens retirement village to the rail crossing near Sawtell station. Follow the back streets of Sawtell to First Avenue for the most important stop, coffee at Split Café. And no rain, lots of ominous looking clouds though.

We head back along the same route, stopping off at the Coffs Cycle Club velodrome on Minorie drive for a couple of quick laps. At the Lyons Road roundabout, your truly peels of to go home while George Phil and Herb continue back to Urunga along the new highway and into a nice headwind that has sprung up.

Next Sunday’s ride is Urunga to Bongil Bongil National Park starting at BP North Urunga 7:30am. Regular weekday training rides Wednesday and Friday starting 8:00am BP North Urunga
