This ride was almost a repeat of the Bowraville ride two weeks ago and although a little shorter, only the same three riders, Phil, Tim and Herb headed south from the Urunga BP at 7.30am. The trio was joined by John and Allan at the Valla Beach Rd. and the five cyclists proceeded to Nambucca before turning into Wirrimbi Rd. and pedalling at a brisk pace under ideal conditions for an early coffee at Macksville. Being a bit early, the usual coffee shop had not yet opened so after intensive exploration, the group found the Bumble Bee Café where coffee and milkshakes were served by a friendly pair of Santa’s reindeers.
The temperature had risen noticeably for the return journey and on reaching Nambucca Tim headed off to finish his ride. Both Allan and John departed the ride between Nambucca and Valla Beach Rd. to leave only Phil and Herb to complete the hard slog back to Urunga. During the push up the last hills headlining for Urunga, Phil announced that the temperature shown on his bike computer had risen to 33 degree. The ride of 65km. was very pleasant and without incident, with Herb appearing to be a little Quicker and less stressed on completion, perhaps it was the return of his faithful (old) yellow bike.
