Ride Report 12th August 2012 – Urunga to Sawtell

DUBBUG Ride Report

12th August 2012

George Smith

Yes it was windy and yes it was wet at the start but that didn’t stop the valiant few (Four) from completing their ride to Sawtell. Those who wimped out (windy?) missed a nice fast trip out with the breeze and a very slow return trip against it.  There was only a bit of rain.

Weather aside the ride was uneventful.  No breakdowns or punctures.  Of course the coffee and toast in Sawtell gave strength for the arduous return journey.  Phil and Alan led the way home but provided little by way of a windbreak to George and Herb as they were too far in front.  It must be great to be fit!

Other BUG news is the return of Bettyanne and David from their overseas jaunt.  Until yesterday we had eight of our riders overseas all of them having taken their bikes.  Yes, I am green with envy!  Welcome home BA and David we look forward to hearing of your “Tour de France” adventures.

Of course George had to ride to show off his new bike.  He lost his previous one in a meeting with a truck where he and his bike came off second best.  “It’s a hell of a way to get a new bike but effective”, was his take on the sad event.  Fortunately his helmet took all the damage and, apart from being knocked out for some time, there appears to be no lasting personal damage.

Next Week’s ride is: Sunday 19th Start 0800 From Urunga BP via North Bank Rd to Gleniffer, Bellingen Butter factory  (coffee) then home via North Bank. Weekday rides as usual on Wednesday & Friday Start Urunga BP 0800.
