AGM RIDE 02.03.14

Today’s ride was rescheduled to incorporate the Annual General Meeting of the Dorrigo, Urunga and Bellingen Bicycle Users’ Group (DUBBUG).  As such, we enjoyed a relatively short ride to Boambee for a beautiful cup of coffee at Garden Mania, before returning to the Bongil Bongil Picnic Area.  The election of officers was quickly completed, as all positions were “refilled” by the outgoing candidates.  A magnificent sausage sizzle followed, organised by Allan and Bev Brighton, with the assistance of Colleen and Robert.  These “assistants” are both still suffering from flu like symptoms acquired on our flight to New Zealand for our magnificent two-week tour last month.

We welcomed a new rider today, Margie, who was thoughtfully supported by our sweep Herb Simpson and our President George Smith.  Michele and Don, hailing from the northern suburbs of Coffs Harbour, rode down to Urunga to join the ride and so would have clocked up an impressive total of kilometres on their return.

Although our average age is probably closer to seventy than sixty, as a Bicycle Users’ Group, we continue to challenge ourselves.  Three of our riders, Phil, Kirk and Bettyanne, completed the gruelling 228-kilometre Grafton to Inverell Ultra Endurance Event, last weekend.  The legendary and YOUNG Kirk Taylor was a great support, in both training and during the event, for the two older riders.  His selfless commitment is recognised and valued, by all members of the DUBBUG!

Next week’s ride reverts back to Ian Scott’s Mount Brown Loop.  It begins at Coffs City Centre at 8:00.
