DUBBUG Ride Report October 27, 2013
Girl power was much in evidence on the 60km ride from Urunga to Coffs Harbour and return along the Pacific Highway. In sparkling, calm, spring weather conditions nine riders set off in high spirits with Colleen and then Michelle setting a pace that pushed everyone’s heart rates into the fat burning zone.
With Herb in Sydney doing the 7 bridges walk George ably filled his role as tail end Charlie. Alan, suffering from the flu after his trip to cold New Zealand, succumbed to this cruelty after half an hour and headed back home to bed. His place was taken enroute by Dave from the Coffs BUG whose knee injury had kept him off the bike for some time. Mike’s injuries from his fall the previous week ensured that he and Phil maintained a pace at the front that most could handle for the rest of the way to Coffs.
Big Steve joined us at the Coffs Swimming Pool showing off his new carbon fibre mountain bike to good effect along the Coffs Creek dual use pathway to the Pet Porpoise Pool where refreshments were taken.
On the return journey Enthusiastic Dave, mindful of his lack of midweek training, kept George company at the rear. Their collegial spirit was recognized when they retraced their steps for some kilometers searching for Mike who had taken a slightly alternate route to avoid the painfully bumpy dual use path beside the Pacific Highway. With everyone back together Colleen and Phil led the rest of the group home at a pleasant clip.
