Ride Report 11th August 2013
Ian Scott
Eight riders set off from the BP servo North Urunga for a leisurely ride around some of Coffs Harbour’s cycle ways. Heading up the new highway to Lyons Road, we then joined the cycle way that runs alongside the highway from Lyons Road to Stadium Drive. At Stadium Drive we re-joined the highway and continued along the highway towards Coffs. We re-grouped near Channel 10.
The first 3 riders then headed of down Combine Street then right into Azalea Ave when we discovered we had lost the rest of the group. An ominous indication of things to come! Finally the rest of the group turned up after a few minutes. Continuing left into West High Street, right into Robin Street then left into Red Cedar Drive the group split in two yet again.
We crossed over Coffs creek into Adelines Way then onto Donn Patterson Drive more or less in one group. Continuing on along Mackays Rd then right into Bray Street the front part of the group discovered we had lost the rest yet again. This time it was a bit more than just being a bit slow. The rider in the lead of the second group (who shall remain nameless to protect the guilty!) saw the front group turn right in the distance then led the remaining riders astray by turning into the wrong street!
After that little adventure the group made it to Ocean Parade via the highway and Arthur Street when the next big decision was where to have coffee. After finding one coffee shop closed and one full we continued on to the Surf Club, the first group that is! We find out from Herb that George has a flat so we will accept that as a reasonable excuse.
After coffee and cake at the Surf Club (and a minor hiccup in their usual prompt service!) it was time to continue on to the jetty then along the cycle way around Beacon Hill after fighting our way through the traffic chaos of the Jetty market. Back to Toormina along Hogbin Drive cycle way then around Toormina High, Lady Belmore Drive, Bruce King Drive then back on the highway then finally head back to Urunga.
