Beautiful. Cycling is just the most beautiful & enjoyable way to discover the Mid North Coast and so it was on Sunday, with the sunshine appearing and virtually no wind, the DUBBUG group ventured from Clybucca to South West Rocks, Trial Bay & Smokey Cape Lighthouse. Just to spice it up, the return trip was via Smithtown, taking advantage of the long, flat stretches on both sides of the Macleay river.
A large turnout for this scenic trip, with a few special moments. Phil thought he would cycle the whole trip in low range without the use of his electronic gears. Bettyanne used the trip as a warm up for the upcoming Coffs Challenge and set a mighty pace for the leaders. George found a shortcut on the return trip. Margie, Herb & Dave nearly got wiped out when a house overtook them (the house took up the whole width of the road on the back of a semitrailer). Mark put the power on and showed that riding a 16 degree climb to the lighthouse wasn’t really a challenge. John found the ride so enjoyable he thought he was a teenager and sprinted down. Leigh proved that steady cycling each week makes you stronger and faster. Margie rode an extra kilometre because she had trouble unclipping from the pedals. Both Margie & Leigh celebrated this as one of their longest rides to date. Colleen gave us a well earned break from headwinds on the way home with a flat tyre; and Mike kept the pressure on the ride leaders – maybe because he knows that an enforced rest is ahead for him over the next few weeks.
It’s going to be difficult to top such a great ride, however next Sunday’s cycle tour includes lots of views around Dorrigo. Meet at Top Pub Dorrigo, 8am for a ride out to Bostobrick.
