Ride Report 22nd July 2012 – Urunga to Sawtell

DUBBUG Ride Report

22 July 2012

Ian Scott

With storm clouds building up, seven riders turned up for the start of the ride at BP North Urunga. Mike arrived with Tim as a passenger which seemed a little unusual. Apparently Tim had got a flat riding from Nambucca to Urunga. While fixing his flat, Tim showed us the cause, a split the size of the Grand Canyon in his expensive tire.

As it looked like the heavens may open up any second, we abandoned the planned route to Moonee, which would have involved negotiating road works, and rode to Sawtell along the new highway. As we approached Bonville and hit light rain, Phil decided to pull the plug and turned around at Archville Station Road as he had a lunch appointment he couldn’t be late for. Fancy putting family before a bike ride with all your mates!

Luckily the rain cleared and we made it to Sawtell with. Steve Drake peeling of at Toormina Road. After a coffee stop at Split Café, the group started on the southbound journey into a nice bracing headwind. Your truly, having already ridden to Urunga from Boambee East, also pulled the ping at DeCastella Drive and went home. I can only assume everyone else got back OK with no incidents.

For those interested don’t forget the Coffs Coast Challenge on 5th August. Dave Hunt and Phil Jones are doing the 100 Kms circuit, I will be doing the 60 Kms ride.

Next ride Sunday 29th July 2012 starting at BP North Urunga at 8:00am. Bowraville Meander: Urunga, Hungry Head, New Highway, Nambucca, “Sally’s Way”to Wirrimbi, Rodeo Drive to Bowraville for Coffee. Retrace route for return. Contact George Smith 6568 2115
