The threat of more rainy weather and as a result of being a little “stir crazy” drove six brave cyclists to take advantage of the break in the weather and head out from the BP Urunga on the Sunday ride.
The planned off-road ride on trails in the Bongil Bongil reserve was cancelled and although there was some concern as to the road condition of Southarm and Northbank Roads we headed off to Bellingen in accord with the alternate programmed ride along Southarm Road and found it to be in very good condition.
A spell of rain enroute caused a stop and the donning of waterproof jackets, which as usual caused the immediate end to the rain. A further stop resulted from a puncture in the rear tyre of “tail end charley’s” classic bike however this was quickly repaired and the group wasted no more time in riding to the Butter Factory for refreshments.
The ride back to Urunga, led by Dave, Steve and Phil closely followed by Allan with Bettyanne and Herb as back markers was without incident, however a stop was made at the famous Passionfruit farm to receive free samples of the giant fruit, unfortunately this did not eventuate.
In all the ride covered 45km. and finished back at Urunga with a contented group of riders looking forward to the next ride.
Next Sunday’s ride starts at 7.30am at the Ocean View Hotel Urunga and heads to Janine and Barry’s for refreshments. MTB or Road Bikes OK.
As usual Wednesday and Friday rides from the Urunga BP at 7.30am. about 35km.
