Garden Mania

04.01.15 DUBBUG REPORT

George Smith

A great start to another New Year.   16 riders enjoyed warm and sunny conditions for an easy ride to Garden Mania for coffee and other goodies.

A slight head wind on the way out turned into a welcome tail wind for the return journey. Most welcome in the humid conditions.

We stayed on the Old Highway and the cycle paths for this trip.  The New Highway is best avoided during school holidays.

There were few dramas.  That is apart from Kerrie Smith having both a puncture and a gear breakdown.  We were happy to wait for her and her support crew (Mark, Ian and Bruce.)

Colleen performed the “good deed for the day”.  She rescued a Pee Wee that had been hit by a car.  After carefully carrying it from the road to the shade of a nearby tree she reported that it seemed much better.  Let’s hope it was just a mild concussion.

It was good to be joined by our old friend Tjiong on his super-fast recumbent bike.  He makes us look so slow on our “conventional steeds”.

Ride leader George declared himself very happy at the few “hold-ups” as they gave him chance to regain some semblance of fitness for the following stages.

Next week’s Sunday ride, led by Colleen, will be the “ Gleniffer Galivant”.  60 kms of rolling hills and great scenery.  We leave North Urunga BP at 8:00 a.m.

The Wednesday and Friday rides will start at the North Urunga BP as usual.
